One of the almost immediate consequences of not honoring and not valuing other people is that we lose the opportunity to be blessed by them.
Let me illustrate what I mean. If, for example, you underestimate a person and have a low opinion of him, it is very difficult for you to receive anything from him. When she wants to give you advice or help you with something, you will probably belittle her in your mind, thinking something like: "Do you think I need something from you ...?" This is a form of pride, which leads us to see these people as if they were of a lower category than ours.
Jesus says: "Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet, a prophet's reward made ..." (Matthew 10:41). Think of the Old Testament: the people of Israel did not believe or take into account many of the prophets that the Lord sent them, such as Jeremiah or Ezekiel, and they lost the rewards and blessings that God had prepared for them.
All the people around us have somehow the image of God in their lives. They have great value: in fact, throughout my life, there have been times when the people who least expected me have surprised me with ideas, attitudes or initiatives that have been a great blessing in my life.
That's why I love this passage in the Bible that says, “Love one another with brotherly love; as regards honor, preferring one another ”(Romans 12:10).
An English version translates this passage saying: “Seek tenderly to love the rest of the brothers in the faith, as members of the same family. Try to surpass yourselves in respecting and honoring one another ”(Romans 12:10, translated from TPT). It is so precious!
Dear friend, may there be in your heart the desire to love and honor others, and may that desire lead you to surpass yourself, to grow, and even to prefer honor for others rather than for yourself. .
